The Rock Art of Loughcrew Cairns

Located just outside the town of Oldcastle in Co. Meath, the Loughcrew cairns are a series of approx 30 tombs situated across a ridge of four hills. Of a similar age to the monuments of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth (c.3,000BC) and located on the highest point in County Meath there are spectacular views from the cairns to the surrounding and distant landscapes. The agenda of the day was really excellent with Michelle starting the day and giving a background on Loughcrew art and parallels to modern art. The charcoal drawing was enjoyable and made you appreciate and focus on the stone art more. Finally we went to see the passage tombs to appreciate the stone art live. Brilliant day out!
