People all over the world and from many different cultures have carried their stories from one generation to the next through the medium of song. And nowhere is this tradition more alive and well than in Ireland.
This half-day workshop explores the heritage and history of Ireland through the voices of both traditional and modern singers who carry the story of Ireland in their songs.
Singing Ireland's Story
You will hear tunes and songs that go back to the 8th Century which have been 'held' by individual family groups as well as more modern songs covering themes like emigration, love and rebellion.
You will learn to distinguish the different styles and decorations used by traditional singers and leave with an understanding of how the singing tradition in Ireland differs from its near neighbours
"All songs are living ghosts and long for a living voice." Brendan Kennelly
